Simplon pass road

The Simplon Pass road connects the Rhone valley with the Val d’Ossola in the Italian province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola and the Lago Maggiore. The pass road starts in Brig and continues over the Simplon Pass and onwards to village of Simplon and the border village of Gondo with its subtle southern atmosphere.

On the Simplon Pass there are two lakes - the Rotelsee behind the old hospice and the beautiful Hopschelsee (Froglake) – popular with tourists and local bathing guests alike.

Today the Simplon is considered one of the best-constructed pass roads in Switzerland. And although the Simplon Pass road is a national road, the road is not only travelled by motor vehicles but cyclists also.
