Intact Nature Area

One of "Switzerland's last remaining intact nature areas"!

In 2013, the renowned Swiss consumers magazine "Beobachter" listed the Simplon Region as one of Switzerland last remaining intact natural areas - along with prominent places like the Unesco World Heritage Site Jungfrau-Aletsch-Simplon or the Swiss National Park (the authors specifically mentioned the two valleys Zwischbergental and Laggintal).

"A11 Simplon/Zwischbergental/Nanztal

The third stage of the Stockalperweg leads from Simplon Dorf to Gondo but not through the infamous Gondo Gorge. But via "Furggu" into the Zwischbergental. On the right side of the Zwischbergental, the path leads out of the valley to the gold mines and past the ruins of the smelting works. Through a beech forest you descend on an original mule track to Gondo.

Combined with cultural highlights and an impressive alpine flora in an impressive mountain scenery, the Stockalperweg is a real experience.

The sights along the historic ViaStockalper tell many stories. So that you can fully enjoy these experiences, we recommend that you walk the route in 3 stages.

Turn-by-turn directions

From the "Alte Gasthof" in Simplon Dorf the mule track leads through the "Stutzji" and through the Chluisä meadowland down to the hamlet of Gabi. The Stockalperweg climbs up to the path chapel at Chrizji on well-built, narrow hairpin bends in the direction of Furggu. The steep descent from Furggu through larch woods to the "Chatzhalte" farmstead runs flatter to the Serasee, which received a new dam wall in 2011. On the right side of the Zwischberg valley, the trail leads out of the valley to the gold mines and past the ruins of the smelting plant. Through a beech forest, the original mule track leads down to Gondo.
