Intact Nature Area

One of "Switzerland's last remaining intact nature areas"!

In 2013, the renowned Swiss consumers magazine "Beobachter" listed the Simplon Region as one of Switzerland last remaining intact natural areas - along with prominent places like the Unesco World Heritage Site Jungfrau-Aletsch-Simplon or the Swiss National Park (the authors specifically mentioned the two valleys Zwischbergental and Laggintal).

"A11 Simplon/Zwischbergental/Nanztal

A very varied hike to the Alps at the foot of the Fletschhorn and it offers an unforgettable overview of the entire Simplon Valley.

The trail leads from Engeloch down to the Krummbach, over the Chlusmatte alpine sign and the following slope on the left bank of the Ritzibach up to the Wysse Bode. At the end of the bottom, the trail leads through a steep slope of rocky outcrops. These are overcome east of the waterfall over the ramp. Then a steep climb up the moraine to the Sirwolt lakes follows. After a well-earned rest at the upper lake, we head east over the steep scree to the upper Wysse Bode. Climb the ramp and continue through the hollow onto the ridge between Schildhorn and Wyssbodehorn. Pay close attention to the red and white markings.

The ascent to the Wyssbodehorn is rewarded by an unforgettable view over the entire Simplon valley with the Monte Leone massif, the fascinating view of the Fletschhorn north face in the west, the Valais Alps in the north and the mountain scenery of the Ossola in the south. The descent to Simplon Dorf is first pleasant and then steeper.

Author’s recommendation

A first rest is emphatic at the Sirwoltensee. In Simplon Dorf, it is worth stopping at one of the four restaurants with Italian flair.
