Swiss Heritage has awarded the municipality of Brig-Glis (VS) the 2026 Wakker Prize.
The Valais municipality promotes a culturally and socially enriching use of its architectural heritage and combines tradition and innovation in an exemplary manner. Through the sensible use of historic buildings, the integration of contemporary architecture and the adaptation of urban spaces to the changing climate, the Alpine town is positioning itself as a resilient and forward-looking living environment.
Programme
Friday, 19 June – Opening of the town festival
7.00 pm – 10.00 pm: Opening reception at the pavilion in the castle gardens with an opening speech by the Deputy Mayor, drinks reception and a concert by ‘Liederalp’
Saturday, 20 June – City Focus and Festivities
08:00–09:00: Wakkermorgen – Yoga in the Castle Gardens
09:00–11:00: City walk around Brig*
10:00–14:00: Short guided tours every hour from Stockalper Castle
11.00 – 14.00: Brunch at Stockalper Castle*
from 16.00: Awards ceremony at ZeughausKultur, Glis
17.00 – 23.30: Food and drink street and concerts, Gliserallee to Glis village square
Sunday, 21 June – Walks and panoramic views
09.00–14.00: Walk along the Bärgeri suone *
10.00–16.00: Short guided tours in Gamsen and Brigerbad with a shuttle bus circuit from the castle gardens
