The Brig Simplon region
The Brig Simplon region lies in the heart of the Upper Valais. The area stretches from the historic town of Brig up to the high mountain landscape of the Simplon Pass and on to Gondo on the Italian border. Whether hiking in summer or skiing in winter, the Brig Simplon region is worth a visit at any time of year. There are exciting contrasts between Brig, with its population of around 13,000, where business tourism also plays a role, and the rural areas, which focus on holiday tourism. The Stockalperweg trail, which leads from Brig over the Simplon Pass to Gondo and on to Domodossola in Italy, is considered the ‘connecting element’ between town, country and mountains.
