Forest
The "Chastelberg" is home to what is probably the oldest larch forest in Switzerland.
Chastelberg is probably the oldest larch forest in Switzerland. The 700- to 850-year-old larches have archived natural and historical events in their annual rings. Dendrochronological methods make it possible to decipher these wooden archives. In addition to climatic influences, natural events such as avalanches and larch moths, humans have also left their mark on the annual rings through clearing and grazing.
