Cast out your rod and happy fishing

You will find plenty of natural and artificial lakes in the Brig-Simplon region. Some of them are suitable for fishing or bathing. Fishing is not permitted in some of the waters, so please find out in advance about the particular body of water, the requirements (day pass and other necessary documents) and the closed days.

Rhone, rivers, lakes, ponds and canals

Open for fishing:

  • Bodies of water in the valley plain: first Sunday in March
  • Bodies of water in the mountains: first Sunday in June

For the short-term passes (one-day, two-day or half-month passes), the opening will take place on the second Sunday of each month. (Cant. Fishing Ordinance, Article 10 annex 6)

Fishing times:
Fishing is permitted at the following times:

  • from 7 am to 7 pm in March;
  • from 6 am to 9 pm in April and May;
  • from 5 am to 10 pm in June, July and August;
  • from 6 am to 8 pm in September and October;
  • from 8 am to 5 pm in November.

In the event that daylight saving time is abolished, the times from April to October will be moved forward by one hour.

Stausee Sera reservoir:
The municipality of Zwischbergen leases the Stausee Sera reservoir in the Zwischbergental valley. Day passes can be purchased at the municipal office, at the Restaurant Bellevue and at the Berggasthof Bord for CHF 20.

Fishing closure:

  • All streams and the upper Rhone: first Sunday in October
  • Mountain lakes and ponds in the Rhone plain: last Sunday in November
  • All other bodies of water: last Sunday in October

Closed days:
Tuesday and Friday (exceptions: on public holidays recognised in the Valais)

Buy a pass:
Annual, half-yearly and monthly passes can only be obtained from the Cantonal Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife Service. Two-day and one-day passes can be purchased at the WKSFV sales points or online.
