On the way from Blatten near Naters to Belalp via Holzji, you will reach Egga, which has an exceptional location, after about half of the way. The settlement nestles like a swallow's nest in a gentle semicircle on the eastern "bank" of a now marshy ice-age slope lake. A village street with houses on the slope and farm buildings opposite leads to an elongated square with a fountain. Almost half of the houses were built in the second half of the 16th century.
The path continues past the Bergführerstübli in the direction of Holzji, where there is a wildlife observation post. It is worthwhile to stop and with a bit of luck you might even catch a glimpse of the local fauna.
The sometimes steep ascent is rewarded at the latest when you arrive at the Aletschbord, because here you not only have a view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, but also of the Valais mountain panorama all the way to the Matterhorn.
