- Destination: Hohbiel
The hike begins at Hotel Belalp. First, take in the breathtaking views of the Great Aletsch Glacier before starting your ascent. The trail leads past Villa Tyndall (built in 1877) and up to the Tyndall Monument (2,351 m above sea level), which is dedicated to the Irish scientist John Tyndall.
A deep affection for her husband, feelings of guilt over his tragic end, and a strong bond with Belalp and its residents were likely the reasons behind the creation of the stone monument. John Tyndall (1820–1893) was an Irish physicist and mountaineer. From 1861 until his death, he spent his summers in the Swiss Alps, mainly in his favorite place: Belalp.
The hike continues upward until you reach the Hohbiel reservoir. Take a break and enjoy the panoramic views of the Valais Alps!
If you're still feeling energetic, you can continue the hike all the way up to the Sparrhorn, or you can begin your descent. During the summer months, the Sparrhorn chairlift operates from Thursday to Sunday.

Safety guidelines
Despite the " impossible to miss " markings of the hiking trails, we recommend for safety reasons to always have an appropriate hiking map with you, so that you can quickly find your way to a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or an emergency, for example.
Especially in autumn, you should also be aware that leaves lying on the ground can hide bumps, roots, stones or holes in the path. After storms, trees can still fall over or branches can fall down. Particularly in bad weather conditions, muddy and slippery passages can occur on near-natural paths. You have to expect this kind of path obstruction when you go on a hike.
Not all rocks or precipices are secured with ropes or railings. In some cases surefootedness is required. If you think that certain sections of the trail are not passable for you, you should avoid them.
