The Bortelhorn is a wonderful viewpoint. In winter, the summit is only easily accessible via the southwest ridge.
Ascent
Berisal – Ascend from Berisal to about 2,400 m above the Bortelhütte. Continue upwards to the east, then into a small hollow heading south to the north end of the small Bortel Glacier. Turn distinctly south-southeast and cross the Bortel Glacier to the ski depot. In winter, the actual summit is rarely ascended.

Berisal – The descent follows the ascent route. Depending on hazard assessment, this may vary.

Ski tourers feel at home on the Simplon. Stay overnight in one of the hotels on the pass or in the village and spend a few route days in the region.
