The Stockalper Trail is a real experience. The elevation can be comfortably managed with the post bus. Varied trails are available on both sides of the Simplon.

The Stockalperweg is not only one of the region's most popular hiking routes but also offers exciting trails for bikers.

Take the post bus from Brig to Simplon Pass. At the Simplon, Hospiz stop, get off and follow the Stockalperweg past the Old Spittel towards Engiloch. Then follows a stretch along dry stone walls until you reach the hamlet of Egga. After a short section on the paved road, the Stockalperweg turns right into the forest. Follow the mule track. Simplon Village appears ahead.

Once in Simplon Village, you can relax on the garden terraces until the next post bus arrives. Take the post bus back up to Simplon Pass at the Hospiz stop. Now follows the second descent over the gallery roofs of the pass road. Via the valley path, you reach the Old Ganter bridge and continue to Schallberg. The trail continues to Ried-Brig and from Lingwurm via Burgschaft into the center of Brig.

Directions

From the Simplon, Hospiz stop, follow Stockalperweg towards Simplon Village. You now cross Bergalpenstrasse and continue along Stockalperweg. A short climb brings you to Engiloch. Continue along the path past dry stone walls. At Maschihuis, cross the bridge and now follow the paved road. Keep right to avoid missing the entrance to Stockalperweg and follow the path. After a right turn, Simplon Village appears before you.

You take the post bus back to the Simplon Pass at the Hospiz stop.

Right behind the Hospiz, the trail leads uphill to the right. Ride on the trail onto the roof of the pass gallery. A metal ramp follows. On a short bike & hike section, you gain altitude. Follow the trail to Schalbett. The trail leads over a metal ramp into a wooded area. After a gentle climb on the road, you reach the Ganterwald restaurant. Then follow the Ganter valley path until you reach the old Ganter bridge. Before the bridge, turn right. The trail ascends gently. Follow the valley path until you reach the road below Schallberg. Ride a few meters on the road until the trail leads left into the forest. Now ride via Bleiken to Brei, then Stockalperweg to Lingwurm. Via the new Simplon road, you reach Burgschaft, past Stockalperschoss to Brig.
