It is considered the most beautiful half marathon in Europe. The 21.2 km route with 1,050 m of elevation gain is also an impressive experience as a hike.

The starting point is the top station of the Bettmeralp aerial cableway (1,950 m). Initially, the route leads through the village of Bettmeralp. Then you hike via Baschweri rope park, forest promenade, and Bettmersee to the Riederalp and from there up to the Riederfurka. From here, the path finally becomes an impressive panoramic hike: the section around Riederhorn fascinates with a fantastic view of the Rhone valley and the four-thousand-meter peaks of Valais. The further route – from the Riederfurka over Hohfluh, Moosfluh, Hohbalm up to the top station of the Bettmerhorn (2,647 m) – is dominated by the magnificent view of the Great Aletsch Glacier. From there you take the gondola back to Bettmeralp. The route is signposted and marked in blue.

The Aletsch Half Marathon attracts 2,500 mountain runners every year. Experience the feeling of starting in this top-class running event yourself.
