The pass hike over the Saflisch reveals for the first time the view of the Valais four-thousanders. The terrace village Rosswald is wonderfully located with a view over the Rhone Valley.

The Alpenpässeweg combines many of the most beautiful passes of the Graubünden and Valais Alps in 33 stages. The 12th stage leads from Binntal to Rosswald.

Pass hiking is a discipline with its own audience. It is not the mountaineers seeking the distant panoramic views from the summit or looking for the confirmation of having "conquered" the mountain. It is hikers driven by curiosity who climb the passes, furggeln, or bocchette. Because every pass conceals the secret of the unknown on the other side. Maps are not enough; it is about discovering a new world with every valley — and leaving another behind.

Directions

At Heiligkreuz, you cross the bridge and then immediately turn sharply right up the slope. Always follow the signposts No. 6 Alpenpässeweg. The path usually ascends steadily, winding higher with some hairpin bends. At Sickerchäller, you get the last chance to fill your water bottles with wonderfully cool mountain water from the well at the alp. Freshly strengthened, you continue hiking upwards towards Saflischpass. At Saflischpass (2,563 meters), it is worth taking a longer break to enjoy the alpine mountain scenery.

Refreshed, you can start the descent. The hiking trail takes you through the Saflischtal valley out to the reservoir above Fleschboden. Here, you can refresh yourself and also enjoy fine Valais specialties. From here, the descent to Rosswald takes about 40 minutes. In Rosswald, you have the option again to eat or stay overnight. The Alpenpässeweg continues the next day towards Simplon and Saastal. From Rosswald, you can hike the 36er path to Ried-Brig or take the cable car down.

From Ried-Brig, the post bus will take you back to the center of Brig.

Parking is available in Brig

Public transportation

Take the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB) from Brig to Fiesch. At Fiesch, change and take the yellow post bus via Ernen to Binn. The trip from Brig to Binn by public transport takes exactly one hour. You can get off here and walk back about 700 meters before turning left just before the tunnel at Ze Binne into the Saflischtal.

At the restaurant Fleschboden after the Saflischpass, it is worth taking a break on the sun terrace to enjoy the fantastic view.
