The Ganter valley path was restored together with the Stockalperweg and leads hikers along historic witnesses through the historic Ganter valley.

Hike the valley path through the Ganter valley.

The Ganter valley was a year-round inhabited valley community in the Middle Ages. In a very small area, different landscape and climate types can be found. Dry hot, sunny pine forests alternate with moist gray alder forests.

As a historic hiking path, the Ganter valley path can be excellently combined with the Stockalperweg. Coming from Brig, hikers turn into the Ganter valley path at "Schallberg," or start the hike alternatively at the bus stops "Schallberg" or "Eisten, Ganter bridge." From here, they follow the valley path to Rothwald and further to "Mittubäch." At "Mittubäch," the Ganter valley path meets the Stockalperweg, which leads all the way to the Simplon Pass.

Directions

In Schallberg, the valley path branches off from the Stockalperweg and runs below the national road towards the east. Under the new Ganter bridge, hikers can choose to ascend on the right or continue walking to the old Ganter bridge. Both paths meet at the southern end of the new Ganter bridge. From here, the valley path steadily ascends until reaching Rothwald, Ganterwald. A short section follows along the national road before the path drops to the right and meets the Stockalperweg again at Mittubäch.
