Challenging hike with a magnificent panoramic view down onto the Rhone Valley and Brig. From Simplon Pass (2005m), which already linked Valais with northern Italy in the Middle Ages, you ascend to Glishorn (2525m). The summit is a rather flat dome and many hikers are drawn by the magnificent view from the steep cliff edge of the summit.
The hike starts at Simplon Pass heading towards Nanzlicka. After "Lengritz", you descend about 200m. Then follows the ascent to Glishorn.
The descent from Glishorn down to Mattustafel is steep, so caution is advised. It is important not to miss the start of the small path about 250 meters west of the Glishorn summit. From Mattustafel to Brig, you can either use the wide pasture road or continue descending on the very steep mountain path down to Brig.
On reaching your destination, you can enjoy viewing Glishorn, which rises to the south of the town, once more from below.
