The ascent to the Monte Leone Hut SAC (2,848 m above sea level) starts from the Simplon Hospice through the Chaltwassertälli. The hike passes huts and houses and the station of the former ski lift. After about half an hour the path continues next to a wooden water channel toward the Chaltwassertälli. The path continues to rise and the water channel disappears. Several mountain streams are crossed on the ascent. There are small crossings with wooden bridges and ropes.
Once the blue lake and the Monte Leone Hut are in sight, it is just a stone's throw until you reach your destination.
For the descent there are several options: hike down the same way toward Simplon Pass or via Mäderlicke to Rothwald.
