The ascent to the Monte Leone Hut SAC (2,848 m above sea level) starts from Simplon Hospiz through the Chaltwassertälli. The hike passes cabins and houses and the station of the former ski lift. After about half an hour, the path runs beside a water channel further towards Chaltwassertälli. The path continues to ascend and the water channel disappears. On the ascent, several mountain streams are crossed. There are small crossings made of wooden bridges and ropes.
As soon as the blue lake and the Monte Leone Hut come into view, it is only a stone’s throw until you reach your destination.
There are several options for the descent: hike down the same way towards Simplon Pass or via Mäderlicka to Rothwald.

- Refresh yourself before the descent with a meal at the Monte Leone Hut. Make a short detour to Mäderlicka and enjoy the panorama of the Rhone Valley.
