- Start: Simplon Pass, Hospice
- Destination: Simplon Village
The Simplon high route leads from the Simplon Hospice in a southeast direction to the Rotelsee. From the lake, you ascend on a well-marked path heading south. We cross the western flank of the Hübschhorn, accompanied by impressive alpine flora. Past small mountain lakes, we reach the viewpoint Hohliecht. This is the turning point for casual walkers.
The path now turns around a rocky ridge into the Hohweng, the southwest flank of the Hübschhorn. The trail then passes directly between the bases of a high voltage pylon. Here you must continue straight ahead. The old path led down into the valley on the right. Up and down, we reach the shepherd’s hut near Balma and cross the Walibach stream. Now we are at the Alpe Hohmatta, where we have time for a rest.
Shortly before the two wooden huts in Hohmatta a signpost points downhill. But we continue in the same direction to Hohbielestaful and follow the good zigzag path through the Chastelberg forest to Simplon Village.
