The "36er Path" zigzags up the mountainside from Ried-Brig to Rosswald. The path was built in 1939 during the Second World War by Battalion 36 of Mountain Brigade 11. It was mainly used for transporting and securing supplies for the troops stationed in Rosswald during the border occupation.
At that time, all supplies were transported by pack mules. The 36er Path remained the most important connection to Rosswald until the construction of the cable car in 1955. After the road was built, the path largely fell into disuse. In the 1990s, the 36er Path was restored and today is a popular hiking trail in summer and also frequently used by snowshoers in winter.
After the hike, you can return from Rosswald to Ried-Brig by cable car.
