Zwischbergen - Tschawinersee - Monscerapass

From Gondo, the route leads into the wild and romantic Zwischbergental valley. The walk begins in Zwischbergen and follows an old mules’ and smugglers’ track via the Alpe Härd up to the Alpe Waira. It continues through sparse larch forests to the blue Lake Waira and past several small mountain lakes. The ascent continues across a moorland meadow and along old paths to Lake Tschawiner, one of the hike’s scenic highlights. The clear mountain lake is nestled within the alpine landscape of the Zwischbergental valley and offers a stunning panorama with Monte Leone in the background.

From Lake Tschawiner, the route leads across rocky terraces and over the border into Italy. After a short descent to the Rifugio Gattascosa, the ascent to the Monscera Pass follows. From the top of the pass, the historic smugglers’ trail leads through the larch forest, across Alpe Pussetta and back to Zwischbergen to the Gasthaus Bord.
