The international Gondo Marathon takes place on the first weekend in August. The two-day race was first held in 2002 to commemorate 14 October 2000, when a huge landslide buried the village of Gondo and 13 people lost their lives.
In addition to the 84 km double marathon, a single marathon (42 km), a 28 km race and a relay (free division of the route 1st stage: 42 km, 2nd stage: 42 km for two or three runners) and a kids' race can also be completed.
Depending on the distance chosen, participants will cover a route between the Gondo -Simplon Pass and Brig.
The race follows the Stockalperweg for long stretches.
