On the way from Blatten near Naters to Belalp via Holzji, you will reach Egga, which has an exceptional location, after about half of the way. The settlement nestles like a swallow's nest in a gentle semicircle on the eastern "bank" of a now marshy ice-age slope lake.
Only two stately granaries with legs on masonry pillars look down into the valley from the ridge. A village street with houses on the slope and farm buildings opposite leads to an elongated square with a fountain. Almost half of the houses were built in the second half of the 16th century. Ornamentation typical of the period can be seen in the projections of the thieves' trees in the façades.
The path continues past the Bergführerstübli in the direction of Holzji, where there is a wildlife observation post. It is worthwhile to stop and with a bit of luck you might even catch a glimpse of the local fauna.
The sometimes steep ascent is rewarded at the latest when you arrive at the Aletschbord, because here you not only have a view of the Great Aletsch Glacier, but also of the Valais mountain panorama all the way to the Matterhorn.
