However, the second stage of the Stockalper Trail does not lead from Simplon Dorf to Gondo through the imposing Gondo Gorge, but via “Furggu” into the Zwischbergental. For an additional challenge, you can make a detour to the Seehorn.
The trail from Zwischbergen leads steeply uphill to the Monscera Pass. After the Monscerapass, the trails are mostly well signposted but rather poorly marked. The trail leads south from the Monscera Pass to the Rifugio Gattascosa, on to Lago Ragozza and via San Bernardo, Varcencio to the scattered village of Bognanco. We recommend finishing the day's stage here.

Directions
From the “Alter Gasthof” in Simplon Dorf, the mule track leads through the “Stutzji” and through the Chluisä meadowland down to the hamlet of Gabi. The Stockalperweg climbs along well-built, narrow hairpin bends in the direction of Furggu up to the wayside chapel at Chrizji. The steep descent from Furggu through larch forests to the hamlet of “Chatzhalte” is flatter until you reach the Sera reservoir. After the reservoir, a wooden bridge crosses the Great Water and the path climbs up towards the border. Over many natural steps and through large fields of alpine roses, you reach the Monscera Pass and thus the Italian border.
Keep right at the fork in the path on the pass and walk around the lake towards Rifugio Gattascosa. The hamlet of San Bernardo is reached through woods and pastures, and after the church the path descends to the right towards Bognanco. This is followed by a descent through the scattered village of Bognanco to the hamlets of Graniga, San Lorenzo or Bognanco Fonti.
Seehorn variant: For an additional challenge, you can make a detour from Furggu to the Seehorn. This takes around 3 hours extra. Find out more.

Alternatively, you can shorten the route and take the PostBus to Zwischbergen.
In Gondo, in Hof, in Bällegga, at the Sera reservoir and in Bord, there are connections to the Gondo-Zwischbergen PostBus line. Please note that this is an on-call bus, i.e. the bus only runs if reservations have been made in advance. Therefore, please do not forget to register with PostBus on +41 79 713 70 02 at least two hours before departure so that the bus can pick you up.
