7th stage: In the footsteps of the Pope.

From the Oratory of Saint Bernard, follow the D0 hiking trail for a while to Alpe Pragio. This follows the old mule track that led from Domodossola to Monscera and was used by Pope Gregory X in 1275 on his return from Lyon, but also served Baron Stockalper as an alternative route to the Gondo gorges. Then continue on the Sentiero Italia (SI) hiking route to the beautiful valley basin of Vallaro (hut), before climbing again to the Alpe Laghetto refuge, the stage destination of the Via Alpina.
