The tour through Brig starts at the train station in Brig. It was built in 1905 by the Simplon Railway. As soon as you cross the pedestrian crossing, you will see the eclectic hotel building towering up in front of you. This is the Hotel Victoria, built in 1910. As you stroll up Bahnhofstrasse, you should keep looking up so you don't miss the various mansard roofs and cylindrical corner towers of the buildings.
Historical buildings surround the square: the Alte Post, the Perrighaus with its decorative towers, the Kleine Perrighaus and the chapel, which, like the square, is named after Saint Sebastian. From here you pass the Hotel du Pont, the Goudron monument and cross the Saltina bridge. This is the first lift bridge that can be lifted by the flood itself! Here is also the place where the river Saltina overflowed in 1993 and let Brig sink up to 3 meters into water and mud. The Saltina separates Brig and Glis.
Walk along the Upper Saltina Dam and return to Brig after 5 minutes across the river. From Spittelweg via Kirchgasse you get from Neue Simplonstrasse to Alte Simplonstrasse. Cross the Alte Simplonstrasse and climb the stairs to the Kollegiumskirche. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view over the old town. Via Termerweg you return to the castle (Alte Simplonstrasse).
Here you stroll down through the castle, which is lined on both sides by historical buildings. Stop at the famous Stockalper Castle and explore the inner courtyard. We recommend a picnic in the castle garden, which was rebuilt in 2002 to look like the original castle garden.
Further down in the castle, you will reach the relatively new parish church. Next door is the Angleterre, an inn built in 1839, with a beautiful sign on which the coat of arms of the English royal family Windsor can also be seen. To the left of the church, take the shortcut via Sebastiansgasse. You reach the Geissplätzli at the Brutschehaus and return to the station via Belalpstrasse.
