Guätschii designs

Two artists from Simplon and Zwischbergen have designed the Guätschii cards. Both designs are identical in terms of functionality.

This is what the artists have to say about their works of art:

Alfons Jordan – gentle tourism south of the Simplon Pass

This picture was drawn by the artist Alfons Jordan in 2023. In his artwork, he symbolises the contrast between nature and technology on the south side of the Simplon Pass. The rocky landscape of the Gondo Gorge is expressed through drawings of nature and technical symbols. The road ironically integrates the Stockalperweg trail and demonstrates, through the deliberately chosen blue roadway, the fast-flowing pace of today’s world. The car represents mobility, which is indispensable and valued highly by people. And yet nature has to find a way to coexist in harmony with such technology. Taking time to take in the landscape is illustrated by the example of the seated hiker. ‘To put it in the lingo of today: the hiker is chilling in the Gondo Gorge,’ adds artist Alfons Jordan. The bird demonstrates the magnificence of nature, which resists technology, but also the pervasive beauty of the landscape. Nature is an asset that we must all take care of.

Rittiner & Gomez – Fletschhorn in watercolour, 2023

Rittiner & Gomez dedicates his artwork to the Fletschhorn. ‘When I leave Brig, drive over the Simplon Pass and catch sight of the Fletschhorn, that’s when I know I’m home,’ says Rittiner. His scene is painted on handmade paper in watercolour, a technique that is centuries old and, like our mountain region, fragile. Both the mountains and his artwork are shaped by water.

Rittiner Anton presents his artworks at various exhibitions in Switzerland and has been doing so under the pseudonym Rittiner & Gomez since the year 2000. As a painter and drawer, he specialises in landscapes, views of villages and everyday scenes.
