The builder of the Stockalper Castle, Kaspar Stockalper von Thurm (1609-1691), was considered one of the most important personalities in Valaisan history.He dominated the transit and salt trade, extended the Simplon Pass, was involved in mining, loan and salary transactions and was a politician of the highest rank.

The one-hour tour takes you from the large arcaded courtyard to the small inner courtyard of the Old Stockalper House. Inside the building, the magnificent Dreiköngissaal, decorated with rare 19th century panorama wallpaper, and the castle chapel with its precious silver altar await you. The tour continues over the graceful arcade bridge into Stockalper's 17th-century baroque castle building, through the courtroom, the Burgersaal and the festive Rittersaal. From the Knights' Hall you have an impressive view of the extensive, historic gardens.
